Asian hornet nest gassed in Geneva

It’s the second nest this summer the teams have neutralized.

It was found in Pregny-Chambésy near the United Nations by capturing one of the hornets and packing it in ice to make it docile. Then a tiny transmitter was attached with thread. It weighs 250 milligrams – about the same weight as the insect.

The hornet can be tracked down when it returns.

The nest, which was home to around 3,000, is injected with sulfur dioxide to kill them.

The hornets are an invasive species and a danger to bees.
